YSPX is Back!

YSPX is an organization led by Fr. Vrazel that is committed to bringing together young adults from St. Pius X Parish and School.  Like many Catholic organizations, YSPX incorporates religious aspects into their events.  For example, last year we discussed the iportance of the Trinity and focused on the different parts of the Holy Mass.

This year's kick off will be Sunday February 3 at the LaCour's home.  The Super Bowl gathering will of course be second to Father Vrazel's discussion!!  Please join us if you are over the age of 21.

Gathering time is 5:00 PM
Food and beverages will be provided
Cost is $10.00 per person

RSVP to Jeff LaCour (251) 895-3237
or Annette Grady (251) 533-8804

St. Pius X - Life Chain

Nearly 40 St. Pius X parishioners participated in the 2012 LIFE CHAIN. Life Chain is a peaceful and prayerful public witness of pro-life individuals standing along the road praying for our nation and for an end to abortion. It is a visual statement of solidarity by the Christian community that abortion kills children and that the Church supports the sanctity of human life from the moment of conception until natural death. This year, St. Pius X Catholic Parish and Sage Avenue Baptist Church joined together to make an impressive showing of our commitment to bring about an end to abortion.

The Catholic Bible

This is NOT Fr. Vrazel's homily from Sunday September 23, merely a Youtube video that explains much of the same things that he explained about the differences between the Protestant and Catholic Bibles.  The music is also very nice: the Lamentations of Jeremiah from Holy Week.

New Website Launched

At long last, after much hard work, training, and evaluating - not to mention, dozens of parishioners (rightly) asking, "when will we ever update our old website" - Saint Pius X Parish and School now present to the world a new website.  Please take some time to look around and see the many great things we have available to you.Website Launch magnets will be passed out at Mass

  • Crisp New Look: The web designers (Solutio Software) have worked hard to ensure that our new website has a cutting edge look and feel, yet still showcases the beauty of our parish buildings and grounds.  Just take a look around.  That brilliant SPX red and gray highlights every page, and really brings our great parish to life on the world wide web.
  • Regular Updates: The content of the website will be constantly updated, ensuring that you will have the latest parish and school news at your fingertips.  Part of these updates will be photos and videos from parish and school events, so be sure to look around and see if you or your family are on the site!
  • Calendar of Events: No more will we have to wait around to see the Sunday bulletin to know what's happening on Sage Avenue.  Check out the yearly calendars of the parish and the school, as well as the Booster Club calendar and the Lifeteen calendar.
  • Lots of Information... But easy to navigate!  Every parish organization is listed, and the larger ones even have news pages and calendars.  The school side of the site has the lunch menu, links to Facts and Solutions, information on extracurricular activities, and an individual page for each teacher, which will be regularly updated with news and photos from each classroom.
  • Advertising: Our website is supported entirely by revenue produced by ad sales.  If you would like to have your business advertised on StPiusTenth.com, please click here and sign up to sponsor the site!

Parish Feast Day a Big Success

Sunday August 19 marked the 2012 celebration of the feast day of St. Pius X.  (Normally, the feast day falls on August 21, but with the permission of Archbishop Rodi, Saint Pius X Parish transferred the celebration to the Sunday so that more could participate.)

Fr. Vrazel speaks on St. Pius X, the ManCelebrated the day after the Knights of Columbus Shrimp Knight (another huge success), the festivities began on Sage Avenue with a special session of Classes Between the Masses by Fr. Stephen Vrazel on "St. Pius X, the Man."  Fr. Vrazel gave parishioners the opportunity to reflect upon their patron, teaching them about the life of the Pope of the Eucharist.

Next, Fr. Savoie presided over the solemn celebration of Holy Mass in honor of St. Pius X at 10:30.  (Meanwhile, every other catholic parish in the Archdiocese was celebrating the Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time.)  The adult choir, led by interim director Fr. Vrazel, sang beautifully for the occasion.  During Mass, Fr. Savoie blessed the students and teachers, in keeping with a long standing tradition at St. Pius for the weekend before school starts.  At the conclusion of Mass, parishioners had the opportunity to approach and venerate a relic of St. Pius, before heading across the street for the Back to School/Feast Day Carnival.

Threatened all weekend by inclement weather, the Carnival was a huge success.

Despite light rain and many mud puddles, the absence of thunder and lightning gave the kids the chance to not only bounce around on the inflatable obstacle course, and slip down the oversized slip-n'-slide, but to also get very wet and muddy while doing it.

It was a great opportunity for everyone to cut loose and have a good time.  While the kids had a blast outside, the adults enjoyed the food and fun inside the newly renovated Family Life Center.  The event was a showcase of the new (larger) men's and women's bathrooms and the new carpet on the stage in the main hall.  In addition to the fried chicken, desserts, sno-cones, and popcorn, everyone took home a souvenir SPX koozy emblazoned with the new parish coat of arms.

The cake was so good, we couldn't get a picture taken before people dug in!

Many thanks to the many groups who contributed to making the carnival such a success:  the Strategic Planning Committee, SPX Lifeteen, BSA Troop 36, the custodial staff, and Pollmans Bakery for making an excellent cake in honor of our patron, St. Pius X.

Individual Hearing Devices

If you are interested in purchasing a personal hearing device which you can that home, please contact the church office. These devices cost $100.00. The devices are programmed to work only at Saint Pius X Parish.

Pray the Patriotic Rosary with us

Our Patriotic Rosary has been moved to Wednesday at 7:15 AM. Please make plans to stay after the 6:30 AM Mass or arrive early enough before the 8 AM Mass to pray for the welfare of our nation. We will also pray the devotional prayers of the Miraculous Medal after the Rosary.

We are Renovating the Family Life Center

Due to the age and condition of some of the current spaces in the Family Life Center, we have decided to install new restrooms and new carpeting and tile in certain needed areas. However, we will have to pull from the church budget to accomplish this. Therefore, anyone willing to help subsidize this renovation would be greatly appreciated. Please call the office if you would like to donate to a general fund or towards a particular portion of the renovation. Any financial assistance will be appreciated.

Ushers Needed

As of today, we have no schedule of ushers for the Holy Mass. During each Mass, a few volunteers are left with the anxious task of searching for help. The Holy Mass and Our Lord deserves better, do you not agree? If you are willing to serve Our Lord personally in the Holy Mass as an usher, please complete and return a form from the back of the church. You may place this form in the collection basket or return it to the church office. God loves the cheerful giver!
