Katie Mattingly is the resource teacher. She is a graduate of The University of South Alabama with degrees in Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education (with an emphasis on Literacy.) During her 19yrs of teaching in Mississippi and Alabama she has taught Kindergarten, First Grade, Second Grade, Behavioral Disorders, Special Education K-8 and Special Education Inclusion. Katie has trained for two years at the Dubard School for Language Disorders at The University of Southern Mississippi in methods proven to help students with language based learning disabilities. While teaching in Mississippi, Mrs. Mattingly's work in the area of Character Education was honored by the state when she was named "Teacher of the Year" second-place state winner. This is Katie's 7th year at St. Pius X. During the 2013-2014 school year, Mrs. Mattingly is teaching resource and 8th grade math.
The resource department offers a variety of services to students with diagnosed learning problems. These services include organizational/study skills training, small group tutorials, assessment accommodations and monitored educational accommodation plans that can be implemented in every classroom.
Katie has been married to Robert Mattingly for eighteen years. Their nine year old daughter, Mary Frances, is a fourth grader at St. Pius X. Their family spends most weekends, during the fall, watching Robert's alma mater (The University of Alabama) play football. They also enjoy traveling and spending time with family.
The SPX Cross Country Team celebrated the end of their season by participating in The Color Run. The team started the race nice and clean...they ended the race looking like rainbows. Great job team!
