Lectors have the great priviledge and responsibility of proclaiming the word of God at Mass. Training is required to be a lector at St. Pius X. Please inquire with the parish office if you would like to be a lector.
An essential part of liturgies at St. Pius X are our altar servers. Trained to assist the priest and deacon at Mass, they work very hard to ensure that Mass and other liturgical celebrations at St. Pius X are executed with dignity. Children are eligible to become altar servers upon the completion of the fourth grade. During the summer, a week long training camp is held to prepare new altar servers. Any children interested in serving must be trained either at camp, or by Fr. Savoie. The basic commitment of an altar server is one weekend Mass and two daily Masses per month.
St. Vincent de Paul Society
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul offers tangible assistance to those in need on a person-to-person basis. It is this personalized involvement that makes the work of the Society unique. This aid may take the form of intervention, consultation, or often through direct dollar or in-kind service. An essential precept of the Society's work is to provide help while conscientiously maintaining the confidentiality and dignity of those who are served. The Society recognizes that it must assume, also, a role of advocacy for those who are defenseless or voiceless. Members of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (or "Vincentians" ) are men and women who strive to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service to individuals in need. We are young and old. Our members come in every shade of skin color. Some of us are wealthy, some are financially poor, but all of us are blessed with an awareness that our blessings (time, talent or treasure) are to be shared with our brothers and sisters in need.
The Adult Choir is open to membership of all parishioners, high school age and up. This choir sings on the second and fourth Sunday of each month at the 10:30 Mass, September through May. During the year, the adult choir is also responsible for the Christmas, Holy Week, and Easter liturgies, as well as some of the sacramental liturgies for our school such as First Communion. We are always looking for new members, so if you'd like to sing, please our Choir Director.
Mrs. Lydia Gaudet
The ushers at St. Pius X help create and maintain the dignity of our liturgical services. Aside from greeting parishioners and visitors at the door, they assist our congregants in finding seating, take up the offertory collection, and distribute the weekly bulletin after Mass.
Volunteers meet every Friday morning following the 8:00 Mass and are responsible for the general appearance of the church and its furnishings. Duties include straightening the hymn books, care and attention to the altar, changing the holy water, cleaning the windows, organizing pew racks, and cleaning and polishing the candlesticks and sacred vessels.
St. Pius X Respect Life promotes respect for life from conception to natural death. This ministry sponsors many events throughout the year: Life Chain, Respect Life Mini Conference, Pro Life Night of Prayer, Spiritual Adoption, and the Patriotic Rosary (Wednesday mornings before the 8:00 Mass). Respect Life also supports 2-B Choices for Women by attending the annual banquet, sponsoring baby showers, and Alabama Citizens for Life.
